Silesia is a historical region in central Europe. Silesia is located along the upper and middle Oder River, upper Vistula River, and along the Sudeten mountains and the Carpathian Mountains. The biggest city and historical capital city is Wrocław.

In Middle Ages Silesia changed ruler very often. Once it was Poland, once Bohemia. During Fragmentation of Poland there were lots of dukedoms, slowly annexed by Bohemia. Casimir III of Poland at last gave Silesia to Bohemia. In 1526 Silesia with Bohemia came to Austria. In 1741 Prussia conquered those land (only Cieszyn Silesia stayed in Austria). Silesia stayed in german hands to 1945, when Soviet armies conquered Silesia and gave it to Poland. Biggest part of Germans moved to today Germany area, and to those place moved Poles mostly from Kresy, but also from other parts of Poland.
Today biggest part of Silesia is in Poland, but part of Silesia called Cieszyn Silesia is in Czech territory.
