Congratulations, you are now an administrator! Please remember to check your email regularly, and don't be afraid to ask another admin if you ever need any help. I suggest taking a quick re-read of our policies as well. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 14:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[change] Vietnam War categories

  • I understand (obviously) why the Vietnam War should be in the category "Vietnam War". What I don't understand is why you think it should not also belong in the categories "Vietnam" and "Vietnamese History". If "Vietnam" is only for cities, buildings, etc. in Vietnam, okay. But the Vietnam War is an important part of Vietnamese history. Could you explain your reasoning for removing its status in both these categories? Thank you, Tygartl1 15:12, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[change] Random untitiles comment

Why did you take back my edits. I was hoping to help out as my english is not super good and felt that I co uld edit words that I do not know much. I hope you see things my way. But I do not like the nasty post you left me in my talk folder. Thank you. da foosha.

[change] Basic English combined wordlist

You recently deleted absorption due to it being simply a definition article. However, seeing as it's one of the words on the list of 1500 basic/extended wordlist, I would argue that those words should all have articles. I would agree with the stance that, normally, a word that has just a definition should not necessarily have a page. But do you disagree with my stance that all of the 1500 basic words should have a page? Why? I think the burden of proof lies with you, especially in the case of the word absorption which has plenty of potential as an eventual disambiguation page (which is what it is on the standard Wikipedia [1]). And in the meantime, it could certainly be helpful to people who aren't as familiar with English. Please explain to me what your reasoning in deleting this page could have been in light of my argument. Thank you. Tygartl1 21:48, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Creol, I understand your point, and thank you for explaining it to me, but I now have another question. Isn't the process of of piping all "dictionary definition" words to wiktionary creating more work? Let me explain what I mean. Let's say I didn't know that the standard was to pipe the pages to wiktionary (and I'm guessing most people don't know that since it's not standard practice on English Wikipedia) and I did a normal internal wikilink to a word that only exists on wiktionary (for example, absorption). It's now a dead link. Is there a way to make absorption an automatic redirect page to wiktionary? If there is, I say, let's do it. If not, perhaps we should reconsider putting a Basic English definition on the pages in question and adding the template {{wiktionary}} to them. The point is to find a solution that will easily allow people to internally link to the meaning of the word. I think we need to plan for the future and assume that someone is not going to have the time or energy to go through and pipe every occurrence of a "dictionary definition" word over to the wiktionary. Thoughts? Tygartl1 16:33, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm very new to all this and this is my second day. But the first thing I noticed was the 1500 basic/extended wordlist had words without any entry/article. I then discovered that there is also the wiktionary. And it seems that I have stumbled upon a debate. Being that I'm so new I think its redundant to have two pages for the same word and it would seem the logical step to send or "pipe" the words "dictionary definition" to the wiktionary if possible. But after reading Tygartl1's comment it would be wise in my eyes to have an entry/article for each word and a link to the wiktionary entry corresponding for that word, only because of the "eventual disambiguation." --Stjetters 20:48, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Also...is this supposed to be so addictive? --Stjetters 20:49, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[change] Category cleanup help

I know how much work you do on categories so I thought I'd direct you to something I noticed that I don't know how to fix. Regarding The Lord of the Rings, there are 2 categories: The Lord of the Rings and Books by J. R. R. Tolkien. I'm thinking there should be some sort of continuity on categorizing the books vs. the movies vs. the characters, places, and types of creatures. I think this falls under your area of expertise and that you might have some ideas. I'd be happy to help you make this happen. Just let me know. Thanks. Tygartl1 00:52, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Looks good. Thanks! Tygartl1 15:54, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[change] re: my to-do list

Creol, I really didn't appreciate you finishing off my to-do list. I called it my "list of things I want to do" on my page because I actually wanted to do them. Perhaps you could try to be a bit more courteous in the future. I appreciate the work you do around here. Maybe you could try to appreciate me as a fellow Wikipedian. I think my edits speak for themselves. What do you want yours to say about you? Tygartl1 01:04, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Of course no one should be required to check anyone else's page. You gotta admit it's quite the coincidence that you did the exact three that were on my list, though. Tygartl1 14:15, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[change] Bastides

As I see it, there are mainly in the south of france; and in Andorra. If I see it correctly, it was one way to build medieval city. With that in mind, perhaps we need a cat Medieval Cities (once the bastide listing section no lomger consists of only redlinks). On the other hand, all that is left of Carcassonne is something for tourists, if I am informed correctly only the walls have been left standing, some of the houses converted completely.

Another point of note: We night wat to subclass the cities in France (into larger and smaller, or also cities by medieval def and modern cities. Some of those Bastides today have like 500-600 people living there, yet they are formally a city.

[change] Embedded categories

In doing category cleanup, I've noticed some categories that seem to be embedded in infoboxes. Examples of some of the pages are: Template:Ethnic group, Template:Infobox Ethnic group, Democratic Republic of Armenia, and Flag of Armenia. Any idea how to get those categories un-embedded? They aren't categories that really need to be created at this point in time. (I did notice that those particular pages were all done by Artaxiad, but s/he doesn't seem to be a very active editor so I thought this would be a quicker route for getting it fixed.) Thanks! Hi! You're probably tired of me bothering you... (If you are, I'm sorry) I have another category question. I think the Category:Waterway should be renamed as Category:Bodies of water.
