The word country has different meanings in English.
1. It can mean a nation, a part of the land on Earth that is under one government. Some countries have mostly one group of people living in them; other countries are made of many different peoples who share one government; still other countries have many peoples who have moved to that country at different times.Most of the land on Earth is part of one country or another. The United States, China, and Pakistan are all countries.
2. It can mean a historic region or nation with its own culture and traditions, such as England or Scotland.
3. "The country" can mean places that are far from cities
4. "Country" (with a capital C) is also short for Country music.
