[edit] All those forks are very confusing

Try to imagine that you don't know what UltraStar is and you land on this page full of links to all kinds of forks, but without any documentation / comparison. Shinobu 21:04, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

These various weblinks are even more confusing, I understand that the admins of the respective sites want their links here - but I think the usage of Google is fairly easy, so there's actually no need for _all_ these links. I suggest 4 boards:

  • ultra-star.de (I think this one has the most users, though it's German only - but features all versions)
  • doji.compower.pl/ultrastar/ (Seems to be down, but it was Corvus Board - so if they have a new one then this should definitely be named too (Polish, US only))
  • forum.ultrastardeluxe.org (Englisch, USDX only)
  • the board to the NG project, asked them if they have one - they didn't respond right now..

The links to the proprietary programs arn't even supposed to be here, I don't see any link between UltraStar and them - "karaoke software" would be the right place in my eyes.. Mogguh (talk) 17:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree with both Gerbrant and Mogguh. This entry needs to be cleaned up a little. If no one objects I'd get to work on the following:

  • Reduce the amount of unnecessary external links (as suggested by Mogguh)
  • Streamline the fork descriptions (as suggested by Gerbrant)
  • A little more NPOV

It would also really help if someone had more sources - the article is currently kind of lacking in the notability department. -- Farbijan (talk) 21:18, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I think that pure karaoke programs should be removed. Games that do pitch analysis (Singstar, Staraoke, anything else?) should be kept. Doing a neutral comparison between all the forks is quite difficult. A feature table simply won't do (it does not measure how well the features are implemented), and a subjective review is clearly against Wikipedia's NPOV. All three projects are clearly alive and actively developed, too. To further complicate things, there are many more UltraStar forks and new projects that haven't got far yet, but are actively developed or are already dead. --Tronic2 (talk) 00:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Full ACK to Tronic, I just dislike the fact that Corvus original program is totally swallowed by all the other text. I poked Tronic to at least fill some more info into the NG block, it's kinda hard not to write the same over and over again - but there are some special features every UltraStar derivate has. Like NG's awesome option to use SVG's (buh I'm still in the early stages of the SVG skin for you guys), or our eyecandy and the crossplatform stuff. What also bugs me is that there are still too much links (9 links to various forums?), I do understand that others want to promote their "yet another open source karaoke game". _I_ just don't think users want other stuff when they want to read about UltraStar - there is a Karaoke game listing iirc - why not stuffing it in there? Even our two projets don't really fit here, cause the NG guys don't use the code base - we also changed so much that not much of Corvus code is left; the only thing we two projects have in common with US is the idea, the name and some sort of start point (we're not forks anymore). Third thing, the article looks grody - our info box floats into the NG content, their box even flows into the mass of links and so on. Forth thing, why does almost every sentence in the first block start with "UltraStar"? :) I just beg for someone who has a little bit more distance to all the projects and could clear the NPOV, tidy up the mess and delete or shift the links. Cause if I do it, it's definitely considered as some evil action :P

Edit: I just took the risk of ranting project admins, I uncommented the links that don't fit in my opinion, none of the links will be lost anyways cause I even put them in our USDX Wiki. The forum links had deadlinks, the French website is _not_ the first French website about US, the Italian board was triple linked - and so on.. Also the German board has the biggest UltraStar userbase I know of, that's why I placed them on top (10,3k users) - I hope that's okay with everyone. Tired now :) Mogguh (talk) 02:50, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Comment from article page

Shifting this here from a comment in-article:

Hey I'm Mog, actually working on the Deluxe project, I thought it's about time to put in more information and some "historical" facts in here too. I tried to improve the text as far as I can, the fact that Corvus resigned collaboration is true - and can be confirmed by other developers of our project. Maybe i failed in pointing out that he's doesn't do this because he's mean, he's a very lovely person - just wants to do stuff on his own for learning purposes, so if you're a native English speaker you're welcome to improve the text - but please let the facts in there. If you have any more questions or want more information, we're on irc - Quakenet #ultrastardx Thanks :)
