Russian Premier League 2008 is the 17th edition of Russian Football Championship, and 7th under the current Russian Premier League name. The season started on Friday, 14 March 2008 with a match between Terek and Krylia Sovetov in Grozny. Krylia Sovetov won 3–0. The first goal of the season was scored by Krylia Sovetov's forward Yevgeny Savin.

[edit] Tie-breaking criteria
Based on paragraph 16.3 of Russian Premier League regulations for the current season, if two or more teams are equal on points, the standings of these teams are determined by:
- higher number of wins in all matches;
- results of matches between the teams in question (1. higher number of points obtained; 2. higher goal difference; 3. higher number of goals scored; 4. higher number of away goals scored);
- higher goal difference in all matches;
- higher number of goals scored in all matches;
- higher number of away goals scored in all matches;
- higher position in the previous season to determine current standings, or an additional match (tournament) to determine final standings at the end of the season1.
1 The terms, as well as the time and place of conducting this additional match (tournament) are determined by Russian Football Union and the governing body of Russian Premier League, taking into account the suggestions from the participating clubs.

1 Qualification of clubs to UEFA competitions is based on UEFA league coefficients. League coefficients for 2009-10 will be released in Septemer 2008. This key provides information based on league coefficients for 2008-09, when Russia was ranked ninth, but it is unofficially known that Russia will be ranked sixth for season 2009-10.[1]
2 Winner of Russian Cup 2008-09 will also advance to the Fourth Qualifying Round of UEFA Cup.
