Miss Universe 1993, the 42nd Miss Universe pageant, was held at Auditorio Nacional, Mexico City, Mexico on May 21, 1993. Dayanara Torres of Puerto Rico was crowned as Miss Universe 1993.[1] Seventy-nine contestants competed in the 1993 Miss Universe Pageant.

The pageant was hosted by Dick Clark for the fourth and final time, with colour commentary from former Miss Universe titleholders Cecilia Bolocco (1987) and Angela Visser (1989).[2]

This was the third time the pageant was held in Mexico, two years after Lupita Jones won Mexico's first Miss Universe title in 1991. In the weeks prior to the final telecast, the contestants visited Campeche, Oaxaca, Zacatecas and Queretaro for official events and sight seeing.[3]

The pageant was marred by booing from the crowd following the failure of the Mexican delegate to advance to the semi-finals.[4] This continued throughout the telecast, and was particularly directed towards Miss USA Kenya Moore.[1] During the swimsuit competition, shouts of "Mexico! Mexico!" could be heard over the announcer whilst the representatives of Australia and the Czech Republic were competing. There were also unsubstantiated rumours that winner Dayanara Torres was too young to compete in the pageant and that the outcome was rigged.[5]
