Margaret Anderson Kelliher is a Democratic Farmer Labor Party member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 60A since 1998. She is the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives. She is the second woman to hold the position.
Anderson Kelliher grew up on a dairy farm in rural Minnesota. After graduating from Mankato West High School, Anderson Kelliher received a B.A. in history and political science from Gustavus Adolphus College, and an M.P.A. in public administration from Harvard University. She worked as a legislative staffer for then-Speaker Robert Vanasek and then-Senate President Allan Spear before being elected to the legislature in 1998.[1][2]
Anderson Kelliher served as Minority Whip, and in January of 2006 became the first Assistant Minority Leader of the Minnesota House. In June of 2006, she was selected by her caucus to replace Rep. Matt Entenza (DFL-St. Paul) as House Minority Leader, though she assumed the position after the legislative session had come to a close. After the Democrats won control of the House in the 2006 Election, Anderson Kelliher was selected by her caucus to be the House Speaker starting in January, 2007.[3] She replaced Rep. Steve Sviggum (R-Kenyon).
Anderson Kelliher and her husband David have two children, Patrick and Frances.
