Lawrence "Larry" J. Pogemiller (born September 18, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is a legislator in the Minnesota Senate representing the 59th District. He is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, and currently serves as the Senate's majority leader.
A 1969 graduate of DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis, Pogemiller was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1980, serving as the representative of District 55A from 1981-1982. After that term, he was elected to the Senate, where he served as the Senator of District 58 from 1983-1992. From 1993 to the present, he has served the 59th District.
Pogemiller is known for his combative leadership style. Conservative writer Michael Brodkorb refers to him as "Larry 'The Jerk' Pogemiller."[1], and he is known to have a rocky relationship with Republican Governor of Minnesota Tim Pawlenty[2]. Former Minnesota House Speaker Steve Sviggum said of Pogemiller, "He's a very frustrating individual as he runs the clock past midnight all the time."
