Holmen is a village in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,342 at the 2006 census. It is part of the La Crosse, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

[edit] Geography
Holmen contains many wooded areas, hills, and bluffs, typical of the Driftless Area, or "Coulee Region," as local residents call it. The Mississippi River passes just to the west of the village.
Holmen is located at [3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km²), all of it land.

Holmen was incorporated on May 7, 1946.[1] Holmen grew at a steady pace until the 1980s, when it began to grow rapidly. As of 2007, Holmen is among the fastest-growing (by percentage) municipalities in the state of Wisconsin, and the Holmen School District has grown to become second in attendance only to La Crosse in all of southwestern Wisconsin.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 6,200 people, 2,258 households, and 1,698 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,944.9 people per square mile (750.4/km²). There were 2,377 housing units at an average density of 745.7/sq mi (287.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.31% White, 0.31% African American, 0.32% Native American, 3.19% Asian, 0.26% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.90% of the population.
There were 2,258 households out of which 43.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village the population was spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $42,021, and the median income for a family was $49,375. Males had a median income of $33,795 versus $21,270 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,002. About 5.7% of families and 7.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.6% of those under age 18 and 12.5% of those age 65 or over.
