Dź (digraph)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dź or dź is a digraph of the Latin alphabet, used in Polish.
Dź represents a voiced alveolo-palatal affricate, IPA: [d͡ʑ]. It is sometimes devoiced to IPA: [t͡ɕ], particularly at the end of a word. Dź is never written before a vowel, instead dzi is used, e.g. dziecko ("child", pronounced IPA: [d͡ʑɛtskɔ]).
Dź should not be confused with dż which is a voiced retroflex affricate, IPA: [d͡ʐ].
