Cherry Township is a township in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,718 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 57.8 square miles (149.8 km²), of which, 57.6 square miles (149.3 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it (0.35%) is water.
Cherry Township is bordered by Bradford County to the north, Colley Township to the east, Laporte Township to the south and Forks Township to the west.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,718 people, 706 households, and 494 families residing in the township. The population density was 29.8 people per square mile (11.5/km²). There were 1,184 housing units at an average density of 20.5/sq mi (7.9/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.01% White, 0.41% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.76% of the population.
There were 706 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the township the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.4 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $30,357, and the median income for a family was $36,071. Males had a median income of $29,917 versus $19,716 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,706. About 10.3% of families and 11.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.3% of those under age 18 and 11.4% of those age 65 or over.
