Z Wikipédie

Hi,

I think that you should consider this article for deletion. It was deleted as non-notable from the English Wikipedia. See discussion about it here: en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Slovio (2nd nomination).

I don't know Slovak (although i can understand it a little, because i know Russian) and i am not familiar with your deletion procedures.

This is particularly relevant on this Wikipedia, because the website of the language, slovio.com , says that Mark Hucko, the creator of Slovio is a Slovak.

If you can find any sources that will show that this language is notable, then please add them to the article. Citing the language's website is not enough (at least on the English Wikipedia.) Actually, if anyone here can show that this language is notable, then i would re-create it on the English Wikipedia.

Thanks in advance for your attention. --Amir E. Aharoni 10:19, 14. august 2007 (UTC)

The deletion in the en wikipedia was a mistake. I know there are "too" many such languages nowadays, but nevertheless this one IS relevant and repeatedly mentioned in new texts on Slavic languages or articial languages. In addition, it was invented by a Slovak, therefore it is certainly relevant for this wikipedia. The same article was also proposed for deletion in the German wikipedia this summer and the motion was rejected, basically after an intervention of a professor of Slavonic Studies (I think that tells a lot). And I do not see why any decision in the English wikipedia, especially in its current (to put it politely) desperate form, should have any relevance. Bronto 16:01, 14. august 2007 (UTC)

repeatedly mentioned in new texts on Slavic languages - I searched for something like it and couldn't find it. If it is mentioned in so many texts, then why isn't any of these texts cited in any of the articles about Slovio in any language?
I tried looking for the discussion in the German Wikipedia and couldn't find it. Found it - if you're referring to that Tilman guy - i read that paper and it's really not convincing. I am not a professor, but i studied Slavic linguistics in the University. I don't know German very well, but just enough to understand that he took all of his information from the same slovio.com website.
By itself, deletion from the English Wikipedia doesn't mean much, but the total lack of convincing proof for the notability of this language outside its own website is quite relevant, unless you can prove otherwise.
BTW, on the Hebrew Wikipedia articles about Israelis must adhere to the same notability criteria as all the others. But then, if this Hucko guy is a known personality in Slovakia, i would agree that he is notable for other Wikipedias, too. --Amir E. Aharoni 21:31, 14. august 2007 (UTC)
I will not go to a library to make excerpts because of this or start to search for the deletion-page now. You will have to look more carefully. But there is also the link to a paper in the German article. Bronto 21:36, 14. august 2007 (UTC)

P.S.: The fact that a former student doesnt find a professional text convincing is irrelevant for the topic at hand. You can also hardly deny that the language exists and has active users. Bronto 21:42, 14. august 2007 (UTC)

The language is as real as its website. But i do deny that it has users, except a couple of guys on meta:Slavopedia, which was not significantly updated since 2005. --Amir E. Aharoni 22:34, 14. august 2007 (UTC)
