Talk:Baseball
From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change
The article currently looks too complex for "Simple English". --Shultz 09:27, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, it uses the passive voice too much. I've tried to simplify the introduction, but the rest still requires a lot of work. Michael Sappir 09:24, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Remember that passive voice is still better than writing in the second person (you) when writing an encyclopedia. "You" should be avoided at all costs! It is a colloquialism, not a literary device, because if you write "you play baseball" for example, it does not actually mean "you play baseball"... A language learner might be thinking "What? I play baseball? I didn't know that!" We must be careful in using "you" because it is a pronoun that is supposed to be used to refer to the person or people being addressed, therefore it will just about never appear in a good encyclopedia. - Thank you, I didn't think of that. Michael Sappir 13:55, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
