Neil Leslie Diamond nasceu numa família judaica no Brooklyn, Nova Iorque, em 24 de janeiro de 1941. É um cantor e compositor que compôs inúmeros hits nos anos 60, 70 e 80, e até hoje mantém uma multidão de fãs.
Estudou com Barbra Streisand na escola secundarista Abraham Lincoln e chegou a cantar com ela no coro de escola. Aprendeu a tocar guitarra após receber um presente no seu aniversário de dezesseis anos.
Iniciou sua carreira como escritor para Brill Building, e recentemente teve sucesso com canções como "I'm a Believer" e "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You" no The Monkees. Freqüentemente Neil canta a história de sua vida, vivida essencialmete em Nova Iorque e Los Angeles. Alguns de seus exitos: Crackli` Rosie,Song Sung Blue,You D`ont Bring Me Flowers,Play Me,Be, Sepember Morn,Love on the Rocks,Hello Again,America, Heartlight,entre outros. O primeiro casamento de Neil foi com sua professora Jaye Posner, com quem teve duas filhas, Marjorie e Elyn. O segundo casamento foi com Marcia, com quem teve mais dois filhos, Micha e Joshua. Neil e Marcia se divorciaram também.
Muitos de seus discos ganharam certificados de ouro e platina. Recebeu diversos Grammys ao longo de sua carreira. Atuou no filmeThe Jazz Singer,com Sir Lawrence Olivier,em 1980. Seu CD mais recente foi lançado em 2008, intitulado Home Before Dark.
