John Ruskin (Londen, 8 februari 1819 - Brantwood (Lancashire), 20 januari 1900) was een Brits criticus die vooral bekend werd door zijn werk als kunstcriticus en sociaalcriticus, maar wordt ook herinnerd als schrijver, dichter en artiest. Ruskin's essays over kunst en architectuur waren zeer invloedrijk in het Victoriaanse tijdperk en het Edwardiaanse tijdperk.

Na zijn vele publicaties in voorgaande jaren ging hij in 1885 verder met The Pleasures of England en publiceerde zijn autobiografie Praeterita in juli 1889.

In 1886 kreeg hij mentale aanvallen. Op 20 januari 1900 overleed Ruskin aan influenza en werd begraven op het kerkhof in Coniston.

Hij publiceerde ongeveer 250 werken.
