Hi
It's really nice to finally read some articles in Burmese on Wikipedia - great work!
I'm a media and communications researcher from Australia, and at the moment I'm writing about the Burmese language and globalisation. I'd really like to talk to the Burmese contributors to Wikipedia, to ask them about the possibilities and challenges faced in developing these kinds of resources and programs in Burmese.

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] standard for Mywikipedia
Hi,
As a reader I'm still confuse what font you are using for MyWikipedia. Though there is a little problem in Myanmar Unicode. Even in our country we don't have an official standard coding. I know for an admin like you picking one of many coding system for Mywikipedia is hard. Because once you have chosen one it's not easy to change again. But as for me there is a lot of Myanmar internet user is using ZawGyi coding system. And a lot of user can type in ZawGyi very well so it will be helpful to MyWikipedia. Since MyWikipedia need user all over the world to come and edit.
So please state clear that which Unicoding system will we use on the main page.(If it's already been stated on the main page, state it more clearer because I'm still confuse which font you are using.)
ps: a little idea about the Unicode we just have to set a standard and attract some professional to Mywikipedia and they can give us advice then.

Hi James,
Zawgyi is a pseudo font, a spoiler for Burmese Unicode font development.Just Use one of these Myanmar 2, Padauk ver 2.2.2 and Parabaik Sans.
Then you are not CONFUSED anymore.

I am 100% agree with Thade. I encourage you not to use Zawgyi and any other pseudo font. This can lead the real one very hard to adapt in the future. အတုတွေကြားအစစ်ကပျောက်နေမယ်။ First of all you need to download special Firefox browser form [1]. Then download unicode font (or the whole system) from [2], [3]. After installation you will understand what is real unicode. Don't forget to view this page with Deer Park web browser (Special version of firefox for Myanmar unicode).

(Addendum - Firefox ver 2 can display Burmese characters correctly with little configuration and a new version Firefox ver 3 (ready for show time)and latest Opera [4] needs only one of Myanmar 2, Padauk 2.2.2 or Parabaik Sans font in the font folder.You also need to make your computer (Windows) to supportBurmese characters - explanations and font inside font download

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Betawiki: better support for your language in MediaWiki
Dear community. I am writing to you to promote a special wiki called Betawiki. This wiki facilitates the localisation (l10n) of the MediaWiki interface. You may have changed many messages here to use your language in the interface, but if you would log in to for example the Japanese language Wiktionary, you would not be able to use the interface as well translated as here. In fact, of 1,736 messages in the core of MediaWiki, 3.05% of the messages have been translated. Betawiki also supports the translation of messages for 126 extensions, with 2,174 messages. Many of them are used in WMF projects and they are vital for understanding the wiki. Currently none of the WMF extension messages have been translated. Translators for over 90 languages contribute their work to MediaWiki this way every month.
If you wish to contribute to better support of your language in MediaWiki, as well as for many MediaWiki extensions, please visit Betawiki, create an account and request translator privileges. You can see the current status of localisation of your language on MediaWiki.org and do not forget to get in touch with others that may already be working on your language on Betawiki.
If you have any further questions, please let me know on my talk page on Betawiki. We will try and assist you as much as possible, for example by importing all messages from a local wiki for you to start with, if you so desire.

- Currently 7.72% of the messages have been localised. This is a nice improvement, but more work needs to be done if Commons for instance is to be usable.
