This section (started by zatesxuc) discusses the lojbanization of music genres.

Firstly, here is a list of gismu & rafsi from which the categorical lujvo can be made up. (The asterisks indicate questionable concepts.)

seltarmi (the physical form in which the music is performed)

- pa/pav (solo) - bende/bed/be'e (group/band)

  • bende may be modified with barda/cmalu e.g. barbe'e (Orchestra).
tadji (the method by which the music is realized)

- skami/sam (computer) - zmiku/zmi (automation) - sazri/saz (operate) - *dikca/dic (electric) - *rarna/rar (natural)
- dikni/dik (regular/loop) - fukpi/fuk/fu'i (copy/sampling) - jbera/jer (borrow/sampling) - *crepu/rep (harvest/collage)
- rimni/rim (rhyme/*rap) - voksa/vok/vo'a
- gidva/gid/gi'a (conducted)
- cipra/cip (experimental)

  • The use of "electricity" may not necessarily be as typifying a feature as normally conceived; such genres like "Electro/Electronic/Electronica/SynthPop" should be associated rather with "computer" or "automation". Also "naturality" as an opposing term is quite risky since every form of music involves things which are intentional/arbitrary anyway. voksa may be modified with na, meaning "instrumental".
teirmo'a (the temporal characteristics with which the music manifests)

- masno/sno (slow) - sutra/sut (fast)
- cenba/cne (varying) - rirci (rare/unusual)

  • "Varying" and "rare" are about time signatures.
snate'u (the sonant texture of the music)

- curve/cuv (pure/acoustic) - galfi//gaf/ga'i (modified)
- xutla/xul (smooth) - rufsu/ruf (rough) - cladu/lau (loud) - smaji/sma (quiet) - milxe/mli (mild)
- carmi/cam/cai (intense/saturated) - kandi/kad (dim) - *denmi/dem (dense) - *caxno/cax (shallow)
- sampu/sap (simple) - *senta/set (layered) - pluja/puk/pu'a (complex) - *kalsa/kas (chaotic) - *savru/sav/vru (noise)

  • denmi or senta may metaphorically be associated with the "wall of sound" as found in e.g. Shoegazer.
drata

- pante/pat (protest/*punk) - fengu/feg/fe'u (angry) - *fenki/fek (frenzy) - *mabla/mal (derogative)
- *kelci/kel/kei (play/pop) - *kufra/kuf (comfort) - *surla/sur (relax)
- dunku/duk/du'u (anguish)
- cinse/cin (sexual)
- lijda/jda (religious)
- citri/cir (historical) - purci/pur/pru (past)
- diklo/klo (regional) - *nurma/num (rural) - *tcadu/tca (city)
- tcaci/cac (custom/traditional) - *kampu/kau (common/pop) - *cecmu/cem/ce'u (community/pop)
- cizra/ciz (strange) - *rirci (rare) - *basti/bas (alternative)
- ritli/ri'i (rite/party) - dansu (dance) - skina/kin (cinema)
- mixre/mix/xre (mixture)

  • Whether a music sounds crazy or disagreeable or comfortable or relaxing is pretty much a subjective matter.
