Lois Maureen Stapleton (née le 21 juin 1925 à Troy aux États-Unis et décédée le 13 mars 2006 à Lenox), est une actrice, réalisatrice et compositeur de musiques de films américaine. Elle a été l'une des membre de l'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences des États-Unis.

Elle fut mariée à David Rayfiel de juillet 1963 à juin 1966 et à Max Allentuck du 22 juillet 1949 à février 1959 dont elle a eu deux enfants.

Elle a notamment été récompensé durant sa vie par un Grammy Award et un Actors Studio Award. Mais sa vraie victoire fut sa remise d'un Oscar, où elle fut reconnue comme une des plus grandes actrices dans le monde.

Maureen Stapleton a été souvent récompensé et citée pour son jeu d'actrice, et son charisme. Ses compositions seront aussi remarquées.
Elle a été trois fois nommée à l'oscar de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle, en 1959, 1971, 1979, pour finalement le remporter en 1982. Elle sera aussi nommée en 1971 dans la même section aux BAFTA Awards, puis elle le remportera en 1983.
On remarque aussi ses six nominations aux Emmy Award pour ses compositions. Elle en gagnera un en 1968. Elle participera aussi beaucoup aux Golden Globes.
