L’indice de Hoover est le plus simple de tous les indices de mesure d'inégalité de revenu. En anglais, il s'appelle aussi Robin Hood Index.

- N : Nombre des quantiles
- Ei : ressources pour le quantile i,
- Ai : effectif dans le quantile i,
- Etotal : ressources pour tous les quantiles dans une société (une nation etc.),
- Atotal : effectif de la société (de la nation etc.).
