The ZCMI Center Mall is a shopping center near Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah that is owned by Zions Securities Corporation and opened in 1975. At the time of its opening, it was the largest downtown mall in the country.[1] ZCMI stands for Zion's Co-operative Mercantile Institution, which refers to a department store owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that had locations in Utah and Idaho until it was sold to the May Department Stores Company. The ZCMI Center Mall, along with the Crossroads Plaza, which is affiliated with the ZCMI Center Mall, once constituted the largest shopping area in Salt Lake City. However, the two are now undergoing demolition as part of the $1 billion City Creek Center development.

On October 3, 2006, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had announced ambitious redevelopment plans, officially unveiled its plans after negotiating with the city and companies located in the area. The plan called for demolition of much of the ZCMI Center Mall (and all of Crossroads Plaza) by the end of summer 2007, as part of the $1 billion development plan known as the City Creek Center.[2] The Crossroads Plaza Mall has been demolished, and the part of ZCMI Center Mall to be demolished is expected to be finished by the end of summer 2007.
