[edit] a scandal afterall?

In the Ma Ying-jeou article, there were mentions about his lawsuits regarding his use of the special expenses funds. All the courts held that he was not guilty and this matter is now finalised.

The heading which described this matter was "Special Expenses Scandal" and I removed the word 'Scandal' so it just read "Special Expenses". But you reverted my change and said "Can still call it a scandal" without giving a reason.

Would you please let me know why? In the Cambridge dictionary the word is defined as:-

scandal noun 1 [C or U] (an action or event that causes) a public feeling of shock and strong moral disapproval: a financial/political/sex scandal Their affair caused/created a scandal in the office. The scandal broke (= became public knowledge) right at the beginning of the Conservative Party Conference. If there is the slightest suggestion/hint of scandal, the public will no longer trust us.

2 [U] reports about actions or events that cause shock and disapproval: Some magazines contain nothing but scandal and gossip. to spread scandal

3 [S] a situation that is extremely bad: [+ (that)] It's a scandal (that) children could be treated in this way.

The word scandal is inappropriate in this context according to the above definitions. Could we now use a more neutral word to describe the matter, given the outcome at the courts?--Pyl (talk) 06:20, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Would you like to answer the question before insulting people on their own discussion page?--Pyl (talk) 05:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] invasion/liberation

Are users/admins(?) allowed to declare consensus in a discussion they themselves participated in? Just asking. I think the best solution would have been to move the article back to where it originally was (there are some rules somewhere that only clearl uncontroversial moves should be made without prior discussion, and Mainbodys original move was never uncontroversial in the first place (and he did not check google books ;-) ).Yaan (talk) 12:17, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Yunfeng, I read your cited ref (Mcmahong line), and find Britain recognized that china did not sign the simla treaty, and therefore that treaty is invalid. Could you please read your cited ref (mcmhong line) again and carefully. If if you agree with me, could you please delete that sentence? Many thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Apple88 (talkcontribs) 20:47, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
((China's representative (I think his name was Ivan Chen) signed the treaty and the Chinese government later repudiated it. )) Reply to your comments: 1. According to the international law at that time 1914, any treaty has to be ratified to be valid. Chinese government did not ratify it, so it is not valid, and does not represent chinese government official position. 2. The treaty Chen negotiated is about the border of inner and outer tibet. In that treaty, both inner and outer tibet are still parts of china. So, it has nothing to do with recognizing tibet's independence. Actually, the opposite thing is correct: by signing that treaty, tibetan representive recognized tibet is still a part of china in 1914. Of course, tibetan government did not ratify this treaty, either. So, this simla treaty is simply not valid to anyside.Apple88 (talk) 19:17, 9 May 2008 (UTC)apple88

[edit] Do not blank Racism in the People's Republic of China

While you disagree with the content personally, blanking is a bad idea. Particularly the section regarding the reverse racism was cited from multiple sources. Be constructive. Coconut99 99 (talk) 07:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know you could be so "constructive". That's some credits, :-) (Cowboybebop98 (talk) 23:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Heads up on History of Tibet article

Heads up. Gimme danger has enlisted Littlebutterfly's help in improving the History of Tibet article to Good Article status. I raised my concerns about this with Gimme danger, who immediately erased them from his talk page. Longchenpa (talk) 00:52, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gimme Danger's Wiki Project on Tibet

I did some checking up on Gimme danger's Wiki Project on Tibet. As far as I've found he has invited:

So far. Although I haven't looked earlier than April 14. I've informed Gimme danger that I would feel more comfortable if he had included any of the Tibet editors in his invitations. Longchenpa (talk) 17:19, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Happy memorial day weekend. Good news. John Hill has done a lot of hard work on this article. More's left to be done but it's looking much better. Hope you're doing well. :) Longchenpa (talk) 06:18, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I'm in the midst of a thesis this quarter so I'm taking a bit of a break myself. :) Longchenpa (talk) 06:02, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tibet Riots

Please wait until we talk it over before inserting these links. These two links you wanted to insert has very little "direct" connection to the article. And to me, many of the connections you proposed are simply based on interpretation. If none of these references cited on the article explicitly mentioned they were the reasons for the riot, we should not give our own spins on them. Thank you.--Sevilledade (talk) 18:45, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jin Jing

Hi, could you have a look at my proposal at Talk:Jin_Jing#Proposal_to_keep_the_article_as_is and weigh in with your opinion? Thanks, Novidmarana (talk) 17:52, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cantonese

The Standard Cantonese article defines standard Cantonese, the prestige dialect of Cantonese, as the Guangzhou speech. There is absolutely no evidence that "Hong Kong cantonese", whatever that is, has supplanted the Guangzhou dialect as standard Cantonese. In fact, it is to be doubted whether "Hong Knog Cantonese" in fact exists, given that standard Cantonese, i.e. the Guangzhou dialect, is plainly the standard in Hong Kong. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 02:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Not a good idea

Don't do this it makes matters worse not better when you revert the removal of a comment. If he removed it you can take it as read that he saw it so no need to re-add. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 22:24, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question about removing external link on 2008 Sichuan earthquake article

Hi, Yunfeng, I realize that you were trying to remove the external link to ChinaTravelGuide.com's photo coverage. I'm not sure if you noticed my explaination that the site is commercial-free (compare with other commercial links such as YouTube), because you mentioned that it's a commercial link. I think there are several pictures from China.org.cn, but most others on the site are from local people who don't have access to upload photos directly onto wp. As one of the original contributers on this article, I would think it's a very helpful link. Thanks for your contribution on wp. Pintogiants (talk) 22:15, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] About link on Qingming article

Hi, Yunfeng, I kind of understand when you say "move whatever it says into the text then". But the funny thing is that it's not always the case. For this article, I actually had a HUGE discussion with another wp enthusiast, Benjwong. Take a look at Qingming article's discussion page. You'll be amused. Everytime he said he needed reference, I gave him one. Ultimately I lost to him because I could not tolerate anymore, and I said "I promise you I won't bother to make another change if you change it again." Also, before the link was put on, I asked for the public opinion and any objections (see discussion page's "External link" section). CTG has probably over 5000 articles (English and Chinse), but I only put a coule of links. I don't know how many links are there (you can do a link search, I guess), but I think it's a legitimate and helpful site. Pintogiants (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 00:30, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] your time?

Does wikipedia belong to you? If you think your time is limited, just leave away. How can you ask others stop editting pages because of your time? So funny.--Jingandteller (talk) 00:04, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Better to ignore this guy, he also spams my talk page and shows his disdain for collaboration and anyone who does not share his or her love for Jin Jing. Novidmarana (talk) 14:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
