Yanbian University

Yanbian University (Chinese: 延边大学; Korean: 연변대학교) is a provincial public university of the People's Republic of China, located at Yanji, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province. Founded in March 20, 1949, the university's aim is to educate the Korean minority in Northeast China. It is the only university in China that employs Korean as well as Chinese as official languages.
The university offers eleven programs of Economics, Philosophy, Law, Pedagogy, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Management, etc. It consists of 12 colleges, which offer 63 programs for Bachelor's degree, 48 programs for the master's degree, 4 programs for the doctor's degree.
In 2004, the student body amounted to 16,413 students, including 10,599 undergraduates, 712 postgraduates, 44 doctoral candidates, 384 foreign students and 4,674 adult students. Most foreign students come from South Korea, Japan, the United States, and Russia. The faculty comprises 1462 full-time teachers of whom 156 are professors, and 396 are associate professors.
The university is affiliated with major universities in South Korea as well as some academic institutions in North Korea.
