Talk:Yamato Nadeshiko (song)

I've changed the name of this song from "Yamato Nadeshiko" to "Yamato Nadeshiko Spirit." I'm not sure why the previous version had the song title read as simply "Yamato Nadeshiko" but the pronounceation of 魂(Damashi/tamashi; spirit/soul) as Spirit is reflected in the song. In the last verse the lyrics read "めざして/貴方に死ぬまで付いていくわ/明日を精一杯生きて/アナタに誓う大和撫子魂!!" where the bolded part is clearly sung as "Yamato Nadeshiko Spirit". This is also seen at the end of the third verse. The phrase Yamato Nadeshiko is clearly a Japanese phrase, as the link demonstrates, and she does sing only the phrase elsewhere, such as at the start of the third verse, and in the sixth and ninth verses. However, whenever the title of the song itself (大和撫子魂) appears with the 魂 (spirit) kanji she sings it as Yamato Nadeshiko Spirit.

I oppose this move. This page has already been moved a couple of times, and the truth is there is no absolute consensus as to the title of the song. However, given that the English versions of the song are simply called YAMATO NADESHIKO, that is what I'm willing to go with as the song title. アンジェリーク★Angelique 20:14, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

        I realize that this had been brought up before, but when I looked for it, I was unable to find it in any of the 
     BeForU pages or in the page of the song itself or Riyu Kosaka's page. If you could find the earlier discussion, 
     I'd be interested in seeing it to see the arguments made beforehand. In addition, if I recall correctly, the reason 
     it was decided not to include a translation of 魂 in the song title back then was because it was argued that it was 
     not pronounced (not true!) in the song. I recall that being the deciding factor, but would welcome being proved wrong.
        The English versions of the songs are not direct translations. In addition, it was always my belief that the English
     version was titled Yamato Nadeshiko to differentiate it from the Japanese title, pronounced (I'm arguing) 
     as Yamato Nadeshiko Spirit. If both versions of the song were refered to with the same pronounceation, confusion 
     would arise. Hence Yamato Nadeshiko for the English version and Yamato Nedeshiko Spirit for the Japanese

I vaguely remember it being discussed on wiki, but I'm having trouble coming up with links. It's definitely been discussed on a number of fansites... google isn't working with me at the moment and I'm having trouble coming up with anything, but as soon as I find something I'll bring it up here.

I would argue, though, that the Japanese original and the English edit would be titled the same. They did the same thing with Danzai no Hana[1], with the same title transliterated into romaji for the English edit.

I can see how you could be right, but there are so many variations to consider (I've heard "Yamato Nadeshiko," "Yamato Nadeshiko Damashi," "Yamato Nadeshiko Damashii," "Yamato Nadeshiko Tamashii," "Yamato Nadeshiko SUPIRITSU/Spirits"...) I'm not positive that I'm 100% right on the name, but I'm really not sure how to reach a consensus on this one. I'm willing to retract my opposition if we can get a consnsus going on here, though. アンジェリーク★Angelique 21:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
