Talk:Xia (philosophy)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article gives a nice summary, but requires more detail. 24630 00:42, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I would like to add sone Chinese translations of popular western comic heros such as:

Batman = "Bat-xia" Spiderman = "spider-xia" Sgfhk321 04:57, 9 November 2004 (UTC)

[edit] typo?

Is the phrase "to serve social unfairness or injustice" correct? It seems to counter the tone of the rest of the article. I hesitate to edit it myself as it is the topic sentence. Osprey 19:40, 2 January 2005 (UTC)

That's because the info in this article is not only confusing but incorrect. The whole thing needs revision and clarification. For example, the range of characters within pugilistic world of Wulin/Jianghu, including the Xia, is quite broad. To compare them ALL to thieves like Robin Hood is of course ridiculous. As far as comparisons to Batman and Superman, I don't even know where to begin...
A good example can be found in Star Wars. Whether good (members of the Jedi Order) or bad (Sith Lords), all are Jedi. Their belief in and practice of the ways of 'the force' is what binds them and distinguishes them from the vast majority of others who do not. It's similar with the Xia. Many may belong to 'good' sects/clans/schools/whatever, 'neutral' or even 'bad'. Some may not belong to one at all. But being Xia still binds them. Depending on the author or filmmaker, a code of conduct and even 'brotherhood' connects all xia -- policemen and thieves -- within Jiang Hu. The spectrum is quite broad and goes well beyond just thieves. In fact, by far most are not.
Though not a perfect comparison, looking at it this way may help for those unfamiliar with wuxia fiction:
Xia = Jedi, including the Sith
I'm by no means an expert on this topic, though I do enjoy watching a great many wuxia films and TV series and reading the works of both Jin Yong and Gu Long. But maybe I can find the time to clean up this article a bit. Dialwon 18:30, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wow

The only thing that chivalry has in common with Xiá is the moral code and the ideology, a Xiá doesn't always have a boss.
