Xfm
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Xfm is a brand of commercial radio stations focused on alternative music, primarily indie, and owned by GCap Media in the United Kingdom. Xfm was created in 1997 in London, but has since expanded to several stations. Each station produces its own content, with little syndication. XFM is now available across most of the country via DAB
On 11 February 2008 GCap Media announced that they would be selling the analogue licences for the Manchester, Scotland and South Wales stations[1], retaining only XFM London. This was decided in an attempt to shore-up profits and concentrate on 'winning brands'.
Current stations include:
- Xfm London has been broadcasting since 1997.
- Xfm Manchester was launched on 15 March 2006.
- Xfm Scotland, previously known as Beat 106, was launched on 4 January 2006.
- Mi Xfm, a 'personalised radio player' with no commercials or DJs was launched in February 2007.
Former stations included:
- Xfm South Wales which broadcasted to Cardiff & Swansea between 29th November 2007 and 30 May 2008.
