[edit] Band history
They were originally called Xero, which became Hybrid Theory, but then again was changed to Linkin Park. They made just one demo tape, which included the songs "Fuse", "Reading My Eyes", "Stick N' Move" and "Rhinestone", which didn't achieve wide recognition. After Mark Wakefield left to become the manager for Taproot the band hired new vocalist Chester Bennington, formerly of the band Grey Daze, and made the Hybrid Theory EP under the band name Hybrid Theory. A slightly modified version of the cover was shown in Linkin Park's Papercut Video.
[edit] Appearances in later Linkin Park material
On the Linkin Park debut album Hybrid Theory, the track "Forgotten" contains most of the Xero song Rhinestone, except slight lyrical changes left out of the Hybrid Theory version.
"Runaway" uses the main riff of Stick N' Move and the two songs are somewhat similar in structure.
During the 2006 Summer Sonic festival, Linkin Park played "Reading My Eyes" with Chester Bennington. This is notable because it is the second time a Xero song has been played live by the current Linkin Park line up (The first being a demo known as "Pictureboard" which Mike Shinoda claims was played once sometime in 2000 after they changed their name to Linkin Park), and it is also the first time in ten years that the band played a xero song at all. This live track is available on Linkin Park Underground 6.0.
Linkin Park has recently been playing Reading My Eyes again for some of the first shows of Projekt Revolution 2008 and will probably play the song through the tour.
[edit] Demo track listing
Side A:
- "Rhinestone" - 3:38
- "Reading My Eyes" - 2:56
Side B:
- "Fuse" - 3:16

Mike Shinoda has confirmed in a chat that there are two other songs they made while they were Xero that weren't on the demo tape and they are "Esaul" (which is the the first of four demo versions of A Place For My Head), and "Pictureboard" which, according to Mike, was played once live with Chester probably some time in 2000 after the name change to Linkin Park.
