X is the ninth studio album by British rock band Def Leppard, released in 2002. Much like 1996's Slang, it featured another departure from their signature sound by moving into the pop genre. Most of the album was produced by Pete Woodroffe and the band, with remaining tracks produced by either Marti Frederiksen or Per Aldeheim and Andreas Carlsson.
The album features the Roman numeral 'X' recognizing it as their tenth album of original material, beginning with their debut EP (even though it was not a full length studio album).

[edit] Overview
The turn of the century saw a gradual revival of popularity of the band; in July 2001, VH1 aired a biopic, Hysteria - The Def Leppard Story, to record ratings.[citation needed] While 1999's Euphoria had been a moderate success,[neutrality disputed] diehard fans commented that the album sounded overproduced and forced in an effort to sound like the Def Leppard of the 1980s.[citation needed] X was given a negative reaction by many die-hard fans of the band, due to the poppy nature of the sound,[citation needed] especially after the more rock-intensive Euphoria album that had come earlier.
