[edit] Biography

The original line-up included three longtime buddies whose friendship dates back to primary school days: Vlada Divljan, Zdenko Kolar, and drummer Boža Jovanović as well as Divljan's high school friends Srđan Šaper and Nebojša Krstić. The band played their first gig in 1980 in Belgrade's SKC (Student Cultural Centre), where they performed together with the leading Belgrade's bands of the Yugoslav New Wave scene.

Prominent Džuboks magazine's critics declared Idoli the band of the year in 1982, and seven other European music magazines placed them fourth on their lists of the best rock bands for that year. In years that followed, many critics chose their album, Odbrana i poslednji dani, as the best ever record released in former Yugoslavia. Their first single "Retko te viđam sa devojkama" was also the first mainstream gay-themed song from the Balkans.
