It would be really nice if you created a map such as this one Image:GHG_per_capita_2000.svg for the List of countries by carbon dioxide emissions, as the current map Image:Countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_world_map_deobfuscated.png is both old, and shows a bias in focusing on variance in low-emission countries (by stopping at 1 mio) - instead of giving a more clear picture by showing the whole range. --Kim D. I'm reluctant to do one for just CO2. There are plenty of those around and some of them use more recent data than the CAIT 2000 data I've used (which I prefer because it includes land-use change). In what way was I uncivil? I reported what I had encountered before becoming a Wikipedian; how I had paid it no mind; and how I have now had it confirmed, against expectation. The answer to the "If you want to ... why not do so" was implicit in my comment. If I was a troublemaker rather than someone who wants the best for Wikipedia, I would have simply gone ahead and amended the article (and no doubt seen the amendments removed). hi -- thanks for this image. however, would you consider remaking it with a different color spectrum? About 10% of men, including myself, are red-green colorblind, and this often extends to browns. I cannot tell the difference between the colors for the highest categories and lowest categories apart at all, so the map as colored is pretty useless. perhaps using more distinct colors, like a transition from green-->blue or red-->blue, would make it clearer. thanks again. bikeable (talk) 16:37, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry but that would take too long. If I do another series of maps, I'll bear your comments in mind.

I think the palette I used was based on one recommended by Penn State's Color Brewer. Have a look. See if one of the others suits you better. Personally, I prefer the red-to-green. It has obvious symbolism for a topic like climate change plus, to me, it's both the most contrasty and the most aesthetically pleasing. But if 10% of men can't make sense of it ... Regards. I've had another look at ColorBrewer myself. It actually says which palettes are "Color Blind friendly". (I now remember deliberately ignoring that aspect because I was so keen on the look and symbolism of red-to-green. So shoot me, I'm an insensitive majoritarian. Or was.) You'll need Flash to view the selector. Click the "number of classes" to 11, then click "diverging", then click one of the 5-colour strips in the next box down. Of the "Color Blind friendly" palettes (which is most of them), I would probably favour the third from the left in the top row, to wit purple-to-green, but I'm not colour-blind.

I reckon Wikipedia should use a standard palette (and .SVG blank) for all thematic world maps - which is another argument against red-to-green: not all thematic maps (I've temporarily forgotten the clever name for these) illustrate a progression between danger and safety. A palette that is both symbolically neutral and readily interpreted by the colour-blind would be perfect. Lead the way, Bikeable. Vinny Burgoo (talk) 19:45, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
