Vietcong 2 is a tactical shooter PC game, developed by Pterodon and Illusion Softworks, published by 2k games in October 2005, and set during the Vietnam War. It is the direct sequel to Vietcong.

The campaign is set during the Tet Offensive in Hue. The player assumes the role of a disillusioned American named Daniel Boone, an MACV soldier. Boone is part of a coalition of international forces from Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Also, the game has the ability to face the war on the other side as a young Vietcong recruit fighting several months before the Tet Offensive. This campaign is unlocked when the player has completed a certain part of the American campaign. The vietcong campaign is considerably shorter than the American one.

In this sequel the action is focused heavily on urban warfare instead of the prequel's jungle warfare, although the short Vietcong campaign is set mostly in the jungle.

[edit] Trivia

  • Sergeant First Class Steve Hawkins from the prequel appears in a short cameo in the introduction level where he is seen being heavily drunk at the brothel, he is talking about his camp at Nui Pek being overrun by the NVA (where the prequel ended), he also reveals that he is being transferred to California and that he's been urinating blood. Also, Captain Rosenfield appears in a short cameo warning the celebrating guest at the governors palace that the enemy is luring in Tet festival.
  • As an Easter Egg, Daniel Boone makes a Star Trek reference and refer the Vietcongs as Klingons when he was sending a message with a shortwave radio to his pinned down team mates outside the governors of Hue house.

[edit] Reception

Vietcong 2 was poorly received by both critics and casual gamers, scoring a mediocre 60% on Game Rankings (18% less than its prequel). However, as of 2007, it still has a strong multiplayer community, thanks to fan-made addons such as Fist Bravo.
