Via Dolorosa is the name of the fourth novel written by author Ronald Damien Malfi, in which a wounded American soldier returns from Iraq to spend his honeymoon on Hilton Head Island.
The limits of his fidelity are tested when he meets a mysterious Spanish photographer.
In several interviews, Malfi has touted this as his personal favorite of all his books.

[edit] Plot
A young soldier and his wife go on an idyllic island vacation but they can't escape a tragic past that is slowly unravelling their future, even as they try desperately to hang on to each other.
A story of war, love, and moral fortitude, told from the perspective of a man who must reexamine his concept of everything he once believed to be right when everything has gone wrong.
[edit] Acclaim
Hilton Head Monthly called the book "a spellbinding novel of the walls we all build around us." Midwest Book Review called it "somber but poetic." Bookgasm proclaimed, "Malfi gives us solid characters and a story to match."
Despite its critical acclaim as well as its stylistic maturity from the author's previous works, the book itself served to alienate some of Malfi's more casual fans who, on the heels of The Fall of Never and much of his short fiction, were expecting another horror novel. While the book does tread lightly in the speculative/suspense arena, particularly at the book's conclusion, it is mostly a traditional mainstream novel, dealing with issues concerning relationships, adultery, and the U.S./Iraqi war. However, true fans of Malfi's writing will find this book beautifully written and quite enjoyable.
