The American state of Ohio has issued number plates since 1908. With the exception of the World War II years, the passenger number plates were issued in pairs.

[edit] County Code Scheme
The state of Ohio uses a numerical based county coding scheme for their county code stickers. The county code stickers are placed on the lower left hand corner of both the front and rear the number plates.
The county number is the most visible, whilst the county name is in small print below. The scheme assigns a number to each of the state's eighty-eight counties based on its position alphabetically. For example Adams County is assigned the number 1, Morrow County is assigned the number 59, and Wyandot County is assigned the number 88.
