[edit] Prepositions

Hi! I have reverted your edit to the Prepositions:no userbox. The grammar of the box, while absurd, was in fact quite correct; indeed, the absurdity was the point, I believe. Your change would have made the grammar incorrect, and while that may have been a similar point of irony to making the grammar awkward, that particular example of irony does not amuse me, it merely makes me cringe every time I read through my userboxen.

So, going forward, we have three options:

  1. Attempt to come to a consensus within the community for the correct form for the userbox to take.
  2. Create a fork of the userbox, making a new copy thereof within your user namespace and using it as you see fit.
  3. You (or someone else) can convince me that, for whatever reason, your change was correct.

Again, to emphasize--my reversion was not intended to be punitive in any way. I believe, from looking through your edit history, that you were genuinely attempting to fix what you saw as an error, for which motivation I am grateful. As such, I look forward to speedily resolving this situation in the best interest of the Project, with your input.

Hello. Rereading over the userbox in question I just realized how silly my mistake was. I did exactly what it said I shouldn't: ended a sentence with a preposition. I try to use correct grammar, but sometimes it alludes me.
Although I understand your choice of words for the userbox now, looking at the edit history it appears I'm not the first person to make this mistake. It might be grammatically correct, but in my opinion it doesn't read right. Most people who read the box will likely miss the irony it presents and assume it as wrong regardless of whether or not it is.
Either way, it's okay. I was trying to find a few userboxes for my userpage, stumbled across the one in question, edited what I assumed to be a mistake, and moved on. As my assumption was incorrect, I apologize. I'm new to the whole concept of contributing to Wikipedia and am doing my best to figure things out one step at a time. Vayne 06:14, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
No worries. I'd rather have people misunderstand it when it has the right grammar than the other way around. To be honest, userboxen are typically for the user's amusement more than any actual conveyance of information to a third party, so misinterpretation ought to be rare, anyway.
Happy to hear you're enjoying Wikipedia. Keep up the good work! Jouster  (whisper) 22:07, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] How to make a table and explanation why I reverted your update

Although I like the idea of listing all the weapons in BF2, the format you used (list) created a heck of a lot of white space and just screamed for a table. Here's how to make a table on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Table —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BirdKr (talkcontribs) 13:59, 29 March 2007 (UTC).

However, I think it's a better alternative to instead mention some of these weapons in the class section of the article. This article had and is under a massive cleanup so that it won't become a game guide as it was before. We want each section to be general and brief for those who do not have this game. Easter eggs, hints/guides/tips, community-based memes, all those are considered to be not needed by those who have been editting the BF2 article for some time.

I won't erase the weapons table if you do so create it, but don't be surprised if other editors do under the reason of "being a game guide".

P.S. I'm new at directly communicating with other users. If I have to post this on my own space, tell me and I'll do so.

[edit] Commercial use of Image:Sonora CA USA.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Sonora CA USA.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Sonora CA USA.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Sonora CA USA.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Music from Regions Beyond.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Music from Regions Beyond.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Aaw2007.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aaw2007.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
