Vanylven is a municipality in the county of Møre og Romsdal, Norway.
Vanylven was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Syvde was separated from Vanylven July 1, 1918, but again merged with Vanylven January 1, 1964. Rovde was also merged with Vanylven in 1964.
Vanylven borders on Sande and Herøy in the north (across the Rovdefjord). Volda lies to the east, and Eid, Vågsøy and Selje towards the south.

The municipality is named after Vanylvsfjorden (Old Norse Vaniflir). The meaning of the first element is unknown, the last element (-iflir) is also found in the names Sunnylven and Sykkylven, and the meaning is probably 'fjord'.
Until 1889 the name was written Vanelven, in the period 1889-1917 Vannelven, from 1918 on Vanylven.

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1987). It is meant to show how Vanylvsfjorden meets the sea.
