State Route 34 (abbreviated as SR-34) is a short state highway in the city of St. George in southwestern Utah that connects Bluff Street (SR-18) to River Road while providing a connection to I-15. The route runs two miles (more than three kilometers) through St. George on St. George Boulevard. SR-34 was a portion of US-91 when it passed through the city.[3]

Previous to 1953, State Route 34 was the designation given to a route that connected SR-6 (now US-40)[4] to the town of Kamas in northeastern Utah.[2]

[edit] Route description

From its western terminus with SR-18 at Bluff Street, the route heads east on St. George Boulevard, situated along 100 North on the St. George grid system. About a tenth of a mile after the junction with I-15, the route terminates at River Road. The route is classified as an "urban other principal arterial" by UDOT.[1]

[edit] History

The first designation of SR-34 was established in 1910, providing a connection to then SR-6 (now US-40) to the town of Kamas. No changes were applied to this route until its deletion in 1953.[2]

The present SR-34 was formed in 1964, providing a connection from the southern interchange of I-15 in St. George to US-91, which I-15 was replacing. In 1969, more than four miles of US-91 were redesignated as a portion of SR-34. In 1975, SR-18 had taken the place of SR-34 from I-15 to St. George Boulevard on Bluff Street. The remainder continued as SR-34. [2]

Also in 1964, SR-34 was to be assigned to a route heading from present day I-80 south through Peoa, Kamas, and Tabiona, eventually terminating at SR-87.[2] Today, this route is a portion of SR-32 and SR-35.[5][6]
