User:UninvitedCompany/Advice to new admins
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Again, congratulations on your adminship.
I offer these suggestions to make the use of your new capabilities a pleasant and nonconfrontational experience:
- In general, be conservative in use of your new capabilities for the first few weeks, until you're sure of what you're doing. Work with a few issues at a time rather than making dozens of deletions or page protections in the space of an hour or less.
- Closing AfD discussions and deleting articles where there is consensus is one of the best places to start, and is widely appreciated because AfD often suffers a backlog.
- Be careful when blocking users, especially logged-in users, whether for 3RR violations or for other reasons. Blocks are frequently controversial and invariably upset the blocked editor and their friends. Be sure that the block is worth it both to you and to the community. Bear in mind that Wikipedia:Blocking policy specifies the duration of blocks made for various reasons.
- Finally, please continue to visit WP:RFA and comment on the nominations there. Since you've just been through the process, you have a uniquely valuable perspective on current candidates.
