[edit] cutting down

  • this page is getting a little convoluted, i began streamlining it, starting w/ the greeks. i added a link to a "main article" on the subject.
    • i think the history and athletics sections need the same thing. for instance, "history" should have a smaller section, a paragraph or two, then take what's there now (which is great, btw), also the presidents infobox table, and put them in a "main article" called history of UWA (see university of alabama's page as an example)

-Sagefats (talk) 03:24, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

  • i made a history of UWA page, but until a condensed history can be provided, i'll leave the history on the main page as well-Sagefats (talk) 03:33, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Academic Divisions needs a trim & a main article as well, man that's long! -Sagefats (talk) 03:55, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Colors

  • regarding an official school color, the GSC page does not supplant the UWA page as a more official source. I just talked to danny buckalew, and he confirmed that black is NOT a school color, as the UWA website says. Black can only be used as a trim color, but it's not an official color. the GSC page is wrong. -Sagefats 15:36, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Alright, that's what I thought too, but I went by that website. You are right: it is not a more official source. Sorry about that! -UWAFanatic05 17:00, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
    • eh, no sweat. I personally like black, but it's apparently a sore spot for old school LU folks, and i think it was even discussed at a Board of Trustees mtg a few years back and people were getting mad that too much black was creeping into the color scheme, so they set an actual limit as to how much black is allowed on our official uniforms (no more than %15-20, i think; although i think we exceed that in some sports); i think that they don't want to look too much like troy or jacksonville state. -Sagefats 18:14, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Multi-Sport Clubs?

  • There is no need for this on the University of West Alabama page. Please do not put it back.

[edit] Unencyclopedic

The history section is good, but many other parts of this article are very weak and need to be brought up to Wikipedia standards as they currently read like an advertisement or as if they were copied out of the student handbook. "Academic Divisions" is a long and tedious list. In "Housing and Residential Life", the items about rates and dorm amenities don't belong in an encyclopedia article, the prose part is pretty good though. References are missing throughout the article, these should be pretty easy to get. (see WP:CITE) I would be careful about putting in a "Notable Alumni" section, I know from personal experience in Wikipedia that this can quickly become a "Trivia" section (see WP:TRIVIA) and an invitation to add crap to the article. All of the section headings need to be corrected to conform to Wikipedia standards, along with some other style issues, per the Manual of style (i.e. only the first word of a section heading is capitalized unless otherwise indicated). If these items are addressed, I think it could be reassessed as a B class article and it would look more professional. Altairisfartalk 02:04, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

  • We're working on it, slowly but surely.Sagefats (talk) 17:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Uwatiger.gif

Image:Uwatiger.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
