Undead and Uneasy is a paranormal romance novel by MaryJanice Davidson.
Undead and Uneasy follows the ever intrepid Elizabeth (Hee! Betsy) Taylor, the Queen of the Vampires who happens to live in Minnesota with her consort (fiance), her best friend, her other best friend, her consort's majordomo, a werewolf, and a fiend...and let's not forget the ghost. This book finally closes out the series - which started on Betsy's 30th birthday, when she was killed after being hit by a car trying to save her cat only to wake up in a morgue wearing an ugly suit and cheap (the horror!) shoes on her feet.
Just as she's finally closing in on her wedding day to (super yummy) Eric Sinclair, who happens also to be the King of the Vampires and her consort for the next thousand years, everything suddenly goes wrong. All the people in her life suddenly disappear - first her father and much hated stepmother (the Ant) dies in a freak car accident, and next everyone who lived with her goes MIA. Her best friend Jessica, who is sick with a rare form of blood cancer enters the hospital while Marc, the ER doctor she saved from throwing himself off the roof (and who's crushing on Sinclair) disappears as well - not answering any calls, texts, or emails. Sinclair leaves after an argument and can't be found, and Tina (Sinclair's majordomo) is in France trying to make friends with the European faction. Antonia the werewolf (who can't transform) and her boyfriend Garrett (formerly George the fiend) disappear without a trace as well. After an argument Betsy ends up alienating her sister (the daughter of the devil...really) Laura and also blows up at her mom after she failed to show up at the wedding of the man who dumped her and the skank who stole him away (Betsy's father and the Ant). All this, and it ends up that she is now the legal guardian of Baby Jon, her half brother from her father's second marriage to the Ant.
Just as she is trying to hold it all together by herself, the werewolves (the Wyndhams) show up looking for Antonia, who failed to check in. Added on top of that, the Devil herself (in $14000 Manolo Blahnik black alligator boots) shows up offering her brand of help (for the small pittance of a soul). After scary phone calls, close calls with her own safety, poor Betsy finally pieces the mystery together with the help of Nick the cop, who unfortunately remembers the mind rape from book one and secretly despises Betsy and Sinclair. And the culprit is...Marjorie the librian, who kidnapped Sinclair, Antonia and Garrett, starving them so that Sinclair has dried out like a mummy. Major girl fight ensues where Betsy finally kicks some ass - and is able to revive and rejuvenate Sinclair, transform Garrett back into a normal vampire, and cure Jessica of her cancer. Oh, and it turns out that the used (antique) engagement ring Sinclair gave to Betsy was cursed - bringing about all the unfortunate circumstances in the book. At the end of the book, Tina returns from Europe, Marc returns from an improptu vacation in the Bahamas with a new boytoy, and Betsy and Sinclair finally get married. the end :)
