The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, often shortened to Ultimate Showdown, is a comical song and video released on December 7, 2005. It features music and lyrics by Lemon Demon with art and Flash animation from Shawn Vulliez.
The work features many famous real and fictional characters, largely taken from pop culture of the 1980s and 1990s, in a huge brawl where "...only one will survive". It gained a large cult following among web enthusiasts[1] and became the "user's choice" on December 28, 2005 on Newgrounds where it has been viewed over 10.2 million times.[2] It appeared on several other websites including Albino Blacksheep[3], Flash Portal, YouTube, Transbuddha, Weebl's Stuff and then its own dedicated site: www.ultimateshowdown.org.
The song topped the "Funny Five" on The Dr. Demento Show for several weeks and was the #1 Request for 2006.[4]. The video has since been parodied and referenced repeatedly. Examples include Crypto 138 in Destroy All Humans! 2, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and other flash videos.

[edit] Showdown participants
The Ultimate Showdown is a bloody battle started by Godzilla and Batman. This is a list of its participants, in order of appearance in the video, with notes on how they were defeated:

5 | Abraham Lincoln | Hit by a Care Bear stare. Can be seen in the final camera pan. |
6 | Optimus Prime | Godzilla bites his head off, although the song may be interpreted that he was meant to survive longer due to the lyrics "Abraham Lincoln tried to Pole-vault onto Optimus Prime" later in the song. |

54 | Mr. Rogers | "...In a blood stained sweater." Undefeated (winner), commits seppuku at the end. |
The song is somewhat contradictory about whether or not everyone dies - despite the fact that "only one will survive," when the showdown is finished "the rest saw their better - Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater." Though Mr. Rogers impales himself through the abdomen, he survives (for at least until the end of the cartoon) and actually dances despite the flood of blood pouring out of his abdomen.
The man eating ice cream seems to survive until the very end, so much as watching Mr. Rogers commit seppuku at the end. However, this was one of the civilian witnesses to the showdown, and not a participant.
The following are people that either did not participate in the battle or were only mentioned. Like previous, in order of introduction.
Verse | Name | Shown |
---|---|---|
1 | Robin | Seen waiting in the Batcave right before Abraham Lincoln is introduced. |
2 | Scruff McGruff | Mentioned as Godzilla takes a bite out of Optimus Prime "like Scruff McGruff took a bite out of crime." |
[edit] Influences
Both artists have previously collaborated on a parody web site, eBaumsWorldSucks.com (subtitled "Media for Dumbasses", a pun on eBaum's World's former slogan "Media for the Masses"), along with Abi Rendon (aka LegalCondom). "Lowtax" is seen punching Eric Bauman, a direct reference to this earlier work.
When Shaquille O'Neal 'opened up a can of Shaq Fu', it referenced his own fighting game, which is often considered one of the worst games ever. Aaron Carter appearing to beat up Shaquille O'Neal is a reference to the song by Carter called "That's How I Beat Shaq" from Aaron's Party (Come Get It).
Abraham Lincoln's tombstone reads "I got a Lincoln Log," a reference to Shmorky, Zoomzip and Fragmaster's song "Abe Lincoln" from Something Awful.
Chuck Norris' central role is an example of Norris being attributed superhuman power as in the notable Chuck Norris Facts.
The scene where Indiana Jones can't find his gun is a reference to a similar scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
The slapping fight between Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario is an example of the many Sonic versus Mario videos which make fun of the rivalry between Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.
