Superhard materials

Superhard materials are materials as hard as or harder than diamonds. For many decades, engineers, scientists, and corporations have sought these materials in order to machine equipment along with create new material that is more attainable with similar physical properties in order to create parts. Only aggregated diamond nanorods have thus far been proven to be demonstrably harder than diamond. Rhenium diboride is harder than diamond in certain directions, but far weaker in others, due to extreme anisotropy. Ultrahard fullerite, heterodiamond, and cubic boron nitride are of near or comparable hardness to diamond. Beta carbon nitride is predicted to be harder than diamond if it could be synthesized.
