[edit] Gameplay
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will feature the same roster of characters as Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and two gameplay modes: classic and rebalanced.[3] Other features will include[4]:
- Online and offline multiplayer
- A training mode
- Hit box display
- Both remixed and classic music
- Voice chat
- A 'Quarter Match' mode which allows players to spectate and jump into online matches simulating the arcade environment
- 8-man tournament mode
- Worldwide rankings and leaderboards arranged by character and country
- Indepth statistics tracking
- A display mode that fits the game into a 16:9 aspect ratio without impacting gameplay
The sprites and backgrounds in the original Super Street Fighter II Turbo will be replaced by high-resolution artwork drawn by UDON Comics, allowing HD Remix to make the most use of high definition displays (but the game can be changed to the original sprites as a option). Remixed music is also in development.[5]
[edit] Development
David Sirlin, producer of Backbone's Capcom Classics Collection Volume 1, suggested a number of projects to Capcom during the compilation's development, including redrawn versions of Puzzle Fighter and Street Fighter II. It's unknown whether these suggestions influenced Capcom to develop both games, but Sirlin took the helm of development when they were approved.[6] In an interview with TeamXbox, Capcom’s senior director of strategic planning and research Christian Svensson revealed that fans on the company's forums had asked for a high definition Street Fighter game, an "overwhelming request".[7] Acting as design director, David Sirlin's role included balance changes to gameplay and correcting differences between the original arcade version of the game and the HD Classic Arcade mode. Other tasks included monitoring speed differences between versions and the addition of new features.[6]
[edit] Beta
A closed beta version of the game is scheduled, with Ken and Ryu as playable characters and a single environment available to fight in. Players wishing to apply must purchase the Xbox Live Arcade version of Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. The beta is scheduled to run for eight weeks, the purpose of which is to test the network code behind online play.[8] The performance of Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting online was "sometimes-sluggish",[9] according to GameSpot's staff, who suggested the beta test was Capcom's attempt to avoid the situation occurring again.[8][9]
