Talk:Sundissential

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

why is sundissential not important? it is the first major sunday early hours house nightclub in the world... it made sunday clubbing popular!

User:Nick Boulevard 23:21, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Give us a break. You've checked all the major cities of the world, and it hasn't occurred to anyone out of billions of people, throughout human history to have a nightclub that's open on Sunday? This is not just self-advertising, it's ignorant.

I'm also not liking the "music" section of this page. It seems to have been written by someone with a bit of a disdain for the style of music. I mean, fair enough if you don't like it but the resultant is hardly encyclopaedic. Not sure how to re-word it though. I'll have a think.

I've edited the "music" section of this page to make it NPOV - it just states the bare minimum as to what the music is to avoid any lengthy (and irrelevant) comparison with house. People who want a more detailed description of the genre can follow the link to the relevant article. Speedything 15:18, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Very close to being nominated for deletion

This page is practically a textbook for what not to do in Wiki. It linked to commerical sites, is clearly written as an advertisement for promoters, has verbose writing with claims that are subjective, lacks citations, and is confusing and rambling.

Wiki is an encyclopedia, not a fan site, not an advertising site, and not a blog.

Unless this is rewritten to present objective information, it will be recommended for immediate deletion.

How do you summarise a cultural revolution in a few paragraphs? The scanned flyer from London is great, and shows how far the Sundissential phenomenon spread back in 1998. Funny how Gatecrasher turned up at the same venue over 2 years later fading into oblivion and obscurity elsewhere shortly after. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.144.109 (talk) 22:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why this article is the way it is

As someone who knows the Birmingham, UK club scene that this event is part of, the page was originally written by someone with a slightly negative view of the event. Further down the line it was then edited with a more positive view of the event. Further down the line again it was edited to try and bring a bit of neutrality to the Wiki page. It has since been edited several times by people close to the event/want to be close to the event, and appears not to be neutral, and more about individual's egos.

- Sundissential started off by making a huge impact on the UK clubbing scene - specifically on a Sunday. The reason it did this, and to comment on someone else's comment asking why is it that this event had and no-one else had, it was down to UK licensing laws. Up until a few years ago it was illegal for a licensed UK premise to sell alcohol and allow dancing on a Sunday. There were various loopholes, but they weren't thought about/obvious until this event employed them.

- Sundissential, whilst still a membership club, had about 15,000 members in countries all over the world. This article talks about "some performers" by first name. Whilst some regulars of 98 - 11 years ago may recognise these names, it is irrelevant to the majority of Wikipedia readers. None of them have gone on to become performers in a larger or more public manner and so giving their names achieves nothing. Maybe mentioning things like "a man who used to wear a men's lavotory urinal" (as there was) would be more important?

- The caveat to the above point is that DJ and Artist names should stay - most are of suitable significance within the UK (and some worldwide) dance music scenes to have a relevance to people searching out information on this topic. There will also be further informatino on these artists around the wider Internet.

- As stated further above, this article has various biases for/against the event that has appeared through different authors. Some parts of the of the events history have been completely removed.

This article, whilst not really having any inaccurate information, is not neutral, and could benefit from a complete re-write. I will see if I can find out all the information and have the time, but if someone else reading this could that would be useful! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.197.119.41 (talk) 08:52, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
