Sunraysia Television - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunraysia Television

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunraysia Television is the publicly-listed parent company of Swan Television and Radio Broadcasters, former owners of STW-9 (Channel 9 Perth). Sunraysia TV is majority owned by Eva Presser, who owns around 55% of the company. WIN Television owns 40% of the company. It is affiliated with the Nine Network.

Sunraysia Television started out in Sunraysia, the area around and including Mildura. It operated a single TV licence, known as STV-8. In 1985 it was purchased by Ms Presser.[1]

In 1989 it acquired STW-9 from Bond Media who were forced to sell due to cross media ownership laws which restricted audience reach. They paid $95million (AUD) for the station and as part of the deal sold station STV-8 to Bond Media for $18million (AUD), it was onsold shortly there after to ENT Ltd. for the same price. Sunraysia Television no longer had any assets in Sunraysia.[2][3]

Eva's husband Dan runs the Sunraysia Natural Beverages company, which similarly has no ties to the Sunraysia region. The Pressers use the term as their personal brand name, which is somewhat ironic as the name is derived from a 1920's dried fruit advertising campaign, for the Australian Dried Fruits Association - an entity with no connections to the Pressers.

In February 2007 PBL Media announced that it would acquire 100% of Sunraysia Television subsidiary Swan Television & Radio Broadcasters Pty Ltd (ie Channel Nine Perth) for $136.4 million. On the 21st of April the board of Sunraysia Television endorsed WIN's revised offer of $163 million. [4]

On June 8, 2007, Sunraysia Television announced its sale of STW-9 to WIN Television's parent company, WIN Corporation, for $163.1 million.[5]
