This was actually an American design, the P-18 Rogak by LES Incorporated of Morton Grove, IL. About 2300 of these were made, I think all of them before Steyr bought the design and started making the GB. There were also 2 grades of GB, the commercial and the military models. 13th Edition Blue Book says only 937 of the military model were imported, all in 1987, and yet the commercial model is priced higher. The annular gas delay cylinder had appeared in prototype form in the WWii German "Volkspistol" as well as in a wwII German carbine.
The comment about very low recoil needs to be qualified, it is also very large and very heavy for a 9mmp pistol, so the low perceived recoil is not surprising.
Magazine design is double column for the full length, this shows reduced susceptability to foreign matter compared to a mag which tapers to a single feed position, such as browning GP35, Schmieser SMG and Schmieser copies including Lanchester and sten.

- It already notes that the GB is double action, and that article covers the workings of the double action mechanism. As for the magazine, the pictures both here and otherwise show a distinct stepping down of the magazine with at the top. While a staggered feed is the norm for rifles and is found in a number of SMGs (the KG-99 and Thompson, for example), it requires a bolt face and feed ramp much wider than for a single feed, which isn't really practical in a handgun. scot (talk) 14:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
