[edit] Alumni

I removed the Sarnia Sting alumni category. He is an active player, not an alumnus. Leafschik1967 (talk) 00:45, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Despite that fact that he is currently playing for the team, Wikipedia came to a consensus to categorize current players as alumni. I'd suggest going thru the WikiProject Ice Hockey archives for more detailsFlibirigit (talk) 03:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm, weird and confusing. I'll go digging around for that. Leafschik1967 (talk) 23:50, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Have a look at John Tavares (ice hockey). He's also categorized as an alumnus. Go figure. Flibirigit (talk) 00:44, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ethnicity

I don't know how Wiki works. But I added that he is of Macedonian descent. Found it in this article: http://www.thestar.com/article/289569 -- Marco —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.57.219.164 (talk) 16:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually, the article says his father Chris is of Macedonian decent, and doesn't indicate what his mother is. Also, I hardly see how this is really important or relevant information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.238.3.174 (talk • contribs)
The cited article clearly states "Chris Stamkos, an American Express employee and first-generation Canadian of Macedonian descent, grew up an ardent Toronto Maple Leafs fan." Unless someone can find a specific source as to which subgroup of Macedonian peoples the Stamkos family comes from, the link must point to the Macedonian disambiguation page. Flibirigit (talk) 07:35, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
"Descent" refers to ethnic groups, not regional groups or regions. BalkanFever 07:40, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
It is not up to any Wikipedian to read between the lines of what is written in the Toronto Star. If Stamkos is indeed from the "ethnic Macedonian" group, it should be easy to find a source. Likewise, other contributors think he is "Greek Macedonian." Yet, nobody has provided a source. Flibirigit (talk) 07:54, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Birthplace

I am posting this here, since many people do not know the difference between birthplace and hometown. Birthplace is where you are born. Hometown is where you live or grew up. According to this official Sarnia Sting biography, Stamkos was born in Scarobough, and resided in Unionville. Flibirigit (talk) 19:41, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ethnicity

Steven is OBVIOUSLY ethnic Macedonian. In the source: http://www.thestar.com/article/289569 it CLEARLY states "Chris Stamkos, an American Express employee and first-generation Canadian of Macedonian descent." Macedonian descent = Macedonian ethnicity, no question! I have changed the page a little here and there to sound better Maktruth (talk) 04:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I will include "Macedonian Canadian" into the article. Maktruth (talk) 21:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I've moved it down a bit. Per the manual of style for biographies, "Ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability."-Wafulz (talk) 15:34, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
