Stephen Venner (born 1944) is the present Bishop of Dover (and thus 'bishop in Canterbury') in the Church of England. He was also appointed the Archbishop of Canterbury's "Episcopal Commissary for the Falkland Islands" or "Bishop for the Falkland Islands" on 16th January 2007.
Bishop Venner read English at the University of Birmingham before reading Theology at St Stephen's House, Oxford and Linacre College, Oxford (since St Stephen's House did not at the time have the status of a Permanent Private Hall), before spending 26 years as a parish priest across various dioceses in Southwark and Salisbury[1].
He was consecrated as Bishop of Middleton in 1994 before being named Bishop of Dover in 1999. As Bishop of Dover, Bishop Venner is also, in practice, the Diocesan Bishop for Canterbury, acting on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury[2]..
Bishop Venner, a qualified teacher, is the Pro-Chancellor of Canterbury Christ Church University[3].
