Stephen Vaughan (born 22 January 1985 in Liverpool) is an English football midfielder who is currently on loan with Droylsden from Chester City, where he is in his second spell.

Vaughan started his career at Liverpool, playing reserve and youth football. However, he was deemed not good enough by the Anfield club, and was released in 2004. He had not played a single game for the first team, despite representing England at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 level.

He was soon signed by League Two side Chester City, under the guidance of Mark Wright. He quickly became a regular at the Deva Stadium, despite mixed performances. Many fans questioned his presence in the team, and accusations of nepotism were made towards Chester's owner, his father, Stephen Vaughan, Sr.

At the start of the 2006-07 season, he was made Chester's captain at the young age of 21. Some Chester fans pointed to this as more evidence for favouritism, but on 3 January 2007, new Rochdale manager Keith Hill made Vaughan his first signing, initially on loan until 4 February, with a view to a permanent deal. However, on 18 January 2007, Boston United signed him for free on a two-and-a-half-year contract from Chester City. He made seven appearances for the Pilgrims but left the club after their double relegation.

After several months out of the game, Vaughan rejoined Chester on 8 February 2008 ^[1]. Just three weeks later, Vaughan and Sean Newton were loaned to Conference National side Droylsden ^[2]. After this loan expired Vaughan returned to Chester. Although he did not make any first–appearances, he was named as a substitute for an away match against Hereford United.
