Stephen Laybutt (born 3 September 1977 in Lithgow, New South Wales) is an Australian football (soccer) player currently playing for the Newcastle United Jets as a defender.[1]
He signed for the Jets after completing a long spell with K.A.A. Gent in Belgium.
Newcastle manager Gary van Egmond was quoted as saying "He's a natural defender, he's a leftie, which works well for us. He's got age and experience, he's comfortable on the ball, and he's one who's not going to be intimidated... He's exactly what we need."[2] He unfortunatley suffered a year-ending hamstring injury and as a result, has widely been tipped that he will not feature again for Newcastle.
