Stephan Bodian is an instructor of meditation, yoga and Buddhism and a psychotherapist currently based in Dripping Springs, Texas. He is perhaps best known for authoring the Meditation For Dummies and co-authoring the Buddhism for Dummies installations of the For Dummies book series.

Bodian studied Asian philosophy as an undergrad at Columbia University and in graduate school at Stanford University. Bodian began practicing Zen in 1970 serving as a pupil of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and Taizan Maezumi Roshi among others. Bodian also spent ten years of his life studying Advaita Vedanta with Jean Kleinamong. He was ordained a Zen monk in 1974 and went on to become the director of training at the Zen Center of Los Angeles.
In 1982 he gave up being a monk to pursue psychology. Bodian began writing during this time, serving as the editor-in-chief of the magazine Yoga Journal and as a contributing editor of Tricycle: The Buddhist Review. His writing has vaulted him gaining a larger presence, particularly Meditation for Dummies which has been met with much editorial acclaim, sales exceeding 125,000 copies and has been printed in English, Dutch, German, Italian, and French. His latest book Wake Up Now has also been met with much acclaim.
In addition to writing Bodian currently holds individual counseling sessions over the phone and heads meditations intensives and retreats, most notably his School for Awakening.
