Stencil is a family of typeface designed by Gerry Powell, Robert Hunter Middleton. Consists of only capital letters with rounded edges and thick main strokes, it recreates the stenciled alphabet used on boxes and crates.

Two stencil typefaces were released in 1937 within a month of each other, one was designed for American Type Founders. That version became known as Stencil Bold.
In 1997, Alexei Chekulaev made a Cyrillic version of Stencil Bold, called Stencil Cyrillic Regular.
In the type specimen book Rookledge's classic international typefinder, the entry Stencil Bold (575) shows the existence of a lowercase letters in the Stencil Bold font that are unavailable from known commercial foundries.

Stencil becomes a common font for army-themed displays, including A-Team television series. It is also used as the font for the logo for the Disney TV show Recess
